H.H.Shri Kumarswamiji – Life and Works

His Holiness Mahatapsvi Shri Kumarswamiji.


His Holiness Mahatapsvi Shri Kumarswamiji was born in 1909. Since childhood he had an aptitude towards yoga and spirituality. His achievements in the sphere of Yoga were remarkable. The Swamiji was one of the very few learned Saints of India.

Many eminent thinkers of East and West have immensely appreciated and admired his masterly works on religion, philosophy, science, education, International peace and democracy. He had written a dozen books in Kannada, the regional language; he had also written a dozen books in English.

Under the auspices of the ‘All India Philosophical Congress’ the Swamiji delivered two lectures one in Madras University in the year 1940 and another in Aligarh University in the year 1941. The Swamiji was invited to attend the World Parliament of Religions convened at Rishikesh by H.H. Shri Swami Shivananda Maharaj in the year 1953. Shri Kumarswamiji presided over the second day�s celebrations.

In December 1970, the Swamiji attended the ‘World Science and Yoga Conference’ held in Delhi and participated in the deliberations of different streams. The Swamiji visited France and presided over the World Religions Conference held in Paris in November 1972. In the same year the Swamiji had an audience with H.H. Pope Paul at Vatican Palace Rome and discussed with him the tenets of Shivayoga on 7th November 1972.

The Swamiji visited Europe 9 times from 1972 to 1982. During this period he toured over England, France, Italy, Switzerland and Belgium delivering speeches on various topics.

Shri Swamiji left his physical body on 22nd October, 1995 at Tapovan, Dharwad, India
